Having been involved with the Health Care Industry in Australia and the United Kingdom for over 30 years I have always been aware of one consistency – health care organisations produce volumes of information. Accreditation has been used as one method by which to assure the general public of the quality of health services. Australia, in particular, has been one of the leader’s in this field. However, the processes attached to evidencing quality have invariably involved the mass shuffling of lots of information so that it is formatted in a way that satisfies the particular reviewing body. Necessarily, this has consumed time and resources that might otherwise have been used more efficiently and effectively.
Improve.IT was borne out of a belief that it was possible to achieve a way to make this much easier, to support the way a business functions (which includes Health Care businesses). Over the last few years this has finally taken shape and Improve.IT provides a platform to satisfy the demands for information to be provided in multiple formats including, but not limited to, those required by Accreditation/Certification Agencies. It does not take away the need to capture data, indeed this demand continues to increase. What it does do is unlock the power of the information being generated on a daily basis and finally allow ‘quality’ to be part of the everyday operations of an organisation. The flexibility built into the programme allows organisations, small and large, to capture as much of that data as they determine.
Of particular note is the partnership approach that we, as a company, have developed with our customers. Many of the features of the programme have stemmed from suggestions that our customers have made. In Improve.IT we have provided a key with which to unlock the potential that already exists in your organisation and we will continue to work together with our customers and industry groups to further develop this potential as part of our company’s continuous improvement strategy.

Technology has come a long way over the last twenty years. I remember my first experiences with a computer – an Apple IIe. I was invited to take a friend’s Apple computer home for the weekend and I quickly found I didn’t want to get any sleep. Within days I bought my own Apple IIe and before long I was word processing, creating spreadsheets, working on databases, programming, and of course, the odd game or two.
Around that time, there emerged promises of paperless offices equipped with scanners and microfiche readers and all the latest equipment, only to have the whole concept fall down all because someone needed to do a shopping list.
Today we use more paper than ever at rates growing almost exponentially. We have evolved offices where we are forced to organise and manage masses of information in a complex array of folders containing large numbers of files, while also dealing with storing reams of paper in filing cabinets, compactus’ and off-site storage facilities. At the same time, we have to keep up with the latest computers, networks, software updates, hard disk space, security measures, and fire walls.
